Hogg’s Heaven Farm began when Chuck and Angela Hogg moved to a peaceful 5-acre plot in Shelby County, Kentucky. Initially, the land served as a playground for dirt bikes and family fun – first with their son, then their daughter, and later, another son! The large backyard quickly became the site of soccer practice and countless family memories.

In 2009, they took the first step towards farm life by starting a small flock of chickens for their family to enjoy. This humble beginning sparked a deeper passion for raising animals. By 2018, Angela and Hannah decided to expand their flock, adding chicks and ducklings that reignited their love for poultry farming. By 2019, their small flock had grown, prompting a search for rare and exotic chicken breeds that weren’t commonly found in Kentucky.

Chuck’s hobby of hatching Ayam Cemani chicks blossomed into a full-fledged venture, sourcing high-quality birds from across the country, including lines from Raven and Greenfire Farms. In tandem, Chuck’s fascination with incubators led him to build his own, outfitting them with sensors and electronics from scratch.

By 2020, the farm’s passion for rare breeds continued to grow. Chuck and Angela sought out unique poultry lines, some of which had never been seen in Kentucky. That same year, the farm expanded its protection efforts with the addition of two Bulgarian Shepherds – Athena and Apollo – Karakachans, a rare breed in the U.S. Their first litter arrived in 2022, further solidifying the farm’s commitment to animal welfare.

As the demand for Hogg’s Heaven Farm chicks grew, by 2022 they were hatching 100-200 chicks every three days to meet the needs of local customers. People travel from up to 5 hours away to get their hands on these healthy, high-quality birds. While the farm doesn’t yet ship, they hope to begin offering shipping in 2023.

At the heart of it all, Hogg’s Heaven Farm remains a husband-and-wife team dedicated to educating others and providing healthy, high-quality chicks that represent the best of each breed.
